Comparison of different production methods of BOPA

BOPA is the English abbreviation of biaxially stretched nylon film. It is an important raw material for the production of various composite packaging materials. At present, it has become the third largest packaging material after BOPP and BOPET films. Compared with other traditional films, BOPA films have the advantages of good transparency, high gloss, strong odor barrier, strong oil resistance and heat resistance. At the same time, because BOPA film is non-toxic and harmless, it has become a popular material in the food packaging industry in recent years, especially suitable for freezing, cooking and vacuum packaging

the manufacturing process of BOPA in China is mainly divided into two kinds: two-step method (asynchronous method) and synchronous method. The two-step process refers to that BOPA production requires two times of stretching and forming. Generally, the longitudinal stretching is carried out at the same time of padding, and then the two sides of the film are clamped with film clips, and the transverse stretching is carried out in the stenter. After stretching, the heat setting is also carried out in the stenter. The synchronous method is to stretch the extruded plastic sheet in the same stretching machine, and complete the longitudinal and transverse stretching, cold and heat treatment to make the film at the same time. The synchronous method and the two-step method share the same source, but are slightly different. The BOPA membrane produced by the two processes has different characteristics and adapts to different downstream applications. The future market is very broad. The following compares the advantages and disadvantages of the two production methods from two aspects

first, the BOPA films produced by the two manufacturing processes have different characteristics. The biggest advantage of synchronous method is that it can reduce the bow effect. Bow effect refers to the uneven stretching during production, the poor balance of the film surface, and the inconsistent heat shrinkage of the diagonal. When it is used for bag making, the two ends will be tilted (like a bow). The bow effect can be effectively improved by synchronous stretching, and the BOPA film produced has the characteristics of good balance. Therefore, BOPA produced by synchronous method is mainly used in the packaging market with high requirements for film surface flatness, such as medical equipment packaging. The two-step production of BOPA has the characteristics of high ductility. The research and development work of the same level of two-step production has always been a global layout strategy. The tensile strength of BOPA film is 20% higher than that of the most processed BOPA film in the fourth quarter of last year, and its elongation at break is also about 18%. At the same time, the two-step BOPA also has high mechanical strength. In the drop test of the plastic industry, the damage rate of the two-step stretched BOPA is far lower than that of the synchronous method, which means that the BOPA film produced by the two-step method is more suitable for the outer packaging of food materials, especially for vacuum and frozen food packaging. With the accelerating pace of life, fast food in supermarkets is gradually accepted by most people. In the future, the demand for BOPA film produced by two-step process will further increase, and the application prospect will be wider

on the other hand, the two-step method is more respected because the product performance is easy to control and the production operation is more convenient when using the two-step method to produce BOPA film. After two-step drawing, necessary heat treatment and cooling treatment can be completed in the same horizontal drawing machine. The production speed is high, with an average of 200 meters/minute. The two-step production line can fully reach the production capacity, or even exceed the production capacity, but the synchronous production line can only reach 80% - 90% of the actual production capacity, and the enterprise with higher efficiency can reach 90%. At the same time, because the two-step production process is more mature, manufacturers using two-step production can ensure high production capacity and yield. In this way, BOPA produced by two-step method has more cost advantages than BOPA film produced by synchronous method. At the same time, the price of synchronous stretching equipment is also much higher than that of two-step stretching equipment, with a high proportion of 2.13 ⑵ 167g/cm this limits the life of the synchronous method BOPA can only be used as a sample in the packaging market with higher prices, and also limits the growth of relevant demand

according to frost Sullivan's investigation, at present, only three domestic manufacturers can produce BOPA with synchronous method, and the others are two-step production lines. After years of production practice, the manufacturers of two-step BOPA have gradually overcome the shortcomings of large bow effect of two-step BOPA film without changing the existing strength through continuous exploration and improvement and technical improvement, thus reducing a series of finished product quality problems caused by bow effect. Judging from the current testing data and application results, the surface balance of some products has reached the level of synchronous products. In this way, the advantages of the two methods can be combined, which makes the two-step stretching film have a greater market prospect
